eDNA Sampling Instructions Select the instructions to follow based on the type of sampling you are doing: Soil / Sediment sampling Soil sampling involves collecting soil or sediment from multiple locations within a designated area.

Water Sampling with a Sterivex Filter

Sterivex filters water through a membrane with tiny pores that capture eDNA while allowing water to pass through. Our Sterivex protocol is a compact, portable method designed for filtering smaller volumes of water (~50 mL). Water sampling with a Smith-Root Citizen Science Sampler The Smith-Root Citizen Science Sampler uses a vacuum pump to pull water through a filter, collecting eDNA as it passes through. This method can filter larger volumes of water (~1L) by submerging the snorkel into water and pumping the sample through a specialized filter housed in the device. You can learn more about the Citizen Science Filter or purchase one from Smith-Root here.
